How to play
How do I jump?
Hold your thumb anywhere on the screen to charge, then let go to jump. The longer you hold, the farther you go. Slide your thumb left or right while charging to choose which way you jump. A quick tap takes a tiny step.
Can I change the controls?
Yes. Open the pause menu and switch between Slide to aim and Classic sides, where you jump toward the side of the screen you first pressed. Music, sounds and haptics can each be turned off there too.
I fell all the way down. Is that a bug?
Nope, falls are part of the fun (and the drama). There's no steering in mid-air, so every jump counts. Every tower is checked by the game before you play it, so there's always a way up.
What's the difference between Climb, Race and Endless?
Climb is a 40-floor tower at your own pace. It stays the same until you reach the top, and then you can try it again or get a new one. Race puts you against other pups, bots or real people, and the treats you grab knock time off your finish. Endless is one tower for everyone each day. Climb as high as you can before the fog catches you.
Who are the other pups in Climb?
They're friendly ghost pups run by the game, there to keep you company. Climb is played on your own and works offline.
Racing
How do I race my friends?
Pick Race, then Private party. One person makes a room and gets a four-letter code. Everyone else enters that code to join. The host can turn bots on or off and starts the race.
Online races won't connect.
Online and Private party races need an internet connection. Climb, Endless and Race vs Bots work offline. Try switching between Wi-Fi and cellular, then try again. If our race server is down for a moment, Race vs Bots still works.
Who am I racing online?
Other Howliday players, plus bots that fill any empty spots so a race always starts. Players see each other's pup, chosen name and position. There's no chat.
How do I change my name or my pup?
Your online name can be changed in the race lobby. Please pick a fun pup name, not your real name. You can change your dog with Change dog after a race.
Progress and data
Is my progress saved? Can I move it to a new phone?
Your progress is saved on your phone. There are no accounts, so we can't move it for you. A device backup or a phone-to-phone transfer usually brings app data along.
Does Howliday have ads or purchases? Does it collect my data?
Howliday is free to play, with no ads (ever), no tracking and no accounts. See our privacy policy for exactly what is sent during online races.
